Women's Golf Places Eighth at UMKC Kenneth Smith Classic
The Truman State University women's golf team concluded the fall portion of its 2001-02 schedule on Tuesday by placing eighth in the University of Missouri-Kansas City Kenneth Smith Classic at Longview Lake Golf Course in Lee's Summit, Mo.
The Bulldogs carded a two-day score of 687 (342-345) on the 5,906-yard, par-72 course on Monday and Tuesday. Truman was 12 strokes behind seventh place IUPUI and 24 strokes ahead of ninth-place Lindenwood. University of Iowa won the tournament with a score of 610 (306-304) and a victory in a playoff over second-place Arkansas Tech.
Senior Amy Franzen (Highland, Ill.) led Truman and tied for 17th with a score of 164 (81-83). Sophomore Erin Fogarty (Houston, Texas/St. Agnes Academy) finished in a tie for 27th with a 168 (84-84).
Junior Jill Schulte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) had a 176 (89-87), while senior Becky Costello (Liberty, Mo.) finished with 179 (88-91). Junior Alyssa Pulphus (Naperville, Ill.) rounded out the Truman team competitors with a score of 183 (91-92).
Truman freshman Katie Harms (Weatherby, Mo.) competed as an individual and carded a 190 (93-97).
The Bulldogs collected four top three finishes in six tournaments this fall and will resume their schedule in the spring.
