Women's Golf Squad Places Third at SIU-Edwardsville Cougar Classic
The Truman State University women's golf team came in third on Monday at the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Cougar Classic played at the par-71 The Woodlands golf course in Alton, Ill.
The Bulldogs, playing in their second tournament of the fall, carded a two-day score of 708 (353-355). The University of Indianapolis won the tournament with a score of 647 (333-314), followed by SIU-Edwardsville with 679 (336-343).
Senior Amy Franzen (Highland, Ill.) led Truman and placed second overall with her score of 158 (80-78), which was one back of medalist Kim Moore of Indianapolis. Franzen led the tournament field with 22 pars and in par four scoring (+4).
Two other Bulldogs appeared on the leaderboard, including senior Becky Costello (Liberty, Mo.) and junior Alyssa Pulphus (Naperville, Ill.). Costello shot a 181 (88-93) to tie for 16th and Pulphus had 182 (91-91) to tie for 19th.
Elsewhere for the 'Dogs, junior Jill Schulte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) finished with 188 (94-94) to tie for 27th. Freshmen Ashley Elliott (Grinnell, Iowa) and Melissa Pfeiffer (Edwardsville, Ill.) shot scores of 200 (107-93) and 221 (105-116), respectively.
The third-place team finish comes less than a week after the Bulldogs won in a three-team meet at Rockhurst with a 336 score, to defeat William Woods and the host Lady Hawks. No individual scoring is available from that meet at this time.
Up next, Truman will play at the Northern Iowa Fall Classic on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 16-17.
