Women's Golf Wraps Up Fall Season With Fifth-Place Finish
The Truman State University women's golf team finished its fall season on Tuesday by taking fifth out of seven teams at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Kenneth Smith Classic. The Bulldogs carded a 681 for the tourney, which was played at the par-72, 5,852-yard Longview Lake Golf Course in Lee's Summit, Mo.
Truman, which won four tournaments and a dual this fall, was led by freshman Erin Fogarty (Houston, Texas/St. Agnes Academy), who finished tied for 17th overall with a 167 (85-82).
Two Truman golfers participated as individuals in the tournament, including senior Laura Potts (Quincy, Ill.) and freshman T.J. Zipf (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community). Potts tied for 19th overall with a 168 (83-85) while Zipf finished in a tie for 35th with a 193 (97-96).
Also competing as part of the Truman team was junior Amy Franzen (Highland, Ill.), who carded a 169 (83-86) to tie for 22nd. Junior Betsy Driskill (Liberty, Mo.) finished with a 171 (84-87) for 24th place, while junior Becky Costello (Liberty, Mo.) tied for 25th with a 174 (86-88). Senior Chrissy Glover (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) rounded out the Bulldog team competitors with a 181 (91-90) for 31st place.
Western Michigan University carded a two-day total of 635 to win the tournament by one stroke over Creighton University (Neb.). UMKC was third with a 644, followed by Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis with a 670. Following Truman in the standings were Briar Cliff (Iowa) (682) and Rockhurst (749).
The Bulldog women will resume play this spring.
