Women's Golf Team Takes First in Tournaments on Friday and Saturday
The Truman State University women's golf team won its first two tournaments of the season, taking first at Knox College (Ill.) on Friday and accomplishing the feat again on Saturday at Monmouth College (Ill.).
On Friday at Knox College, the Bulldogs finished with a score of 340 to defeat Illinois Wesleyan by two strokes. Four Truman golfers placed in the top nine, including junior Betsy Driskill (Liberty, Mo.), who placed third with a score of 82. Junior Becky Costello (Liberty, Mo.) finished fifth with an 84, followed by junior Amy Franzen (Highland, Ill.) and senior Laura Potts (Quincy, Ill.), who tied for ninth overall with scores of 87. Sophomore Jill Schulte (St. Charles, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) tied for 24th overall with a 94 and senior Chrissy Glover (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) recorded a 102.
Saturday's action at Monmouth College saw the Bulldogs card a 344 to tie for first with Illinois Wesleyan. However, Truman won the scorecard playoff. Driskill again led the 'Dogs, carding an 85 to place fifth overall. Costello finished sixth with an 85 and Potts was seventh with an 86. Franzen finished with an 88, Schulte totaled a 91. Glover competed as an individual in the tournament and shot an 87.
The Bulldogs will return to action this Friday and Saturday in Lincoln,
Neb., for the Nebraska Wesleyan Tournament.
