In the Bulldog's season opener, Truman scored first on a 1-yard run by Jarrett Anderson, but VSU struck back with three touchdown passes of 31-, 75-, and 71-yards by Harlon Hill finalist Lance Funderburk to a duo of speedy receivers to take a 21-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
VSU added another seven points on a 6-yard run before Truman answered with two TDs, one by Anderson on a 6-yard run and another by Chris Bray on a 42-yard pass. VSU and Truman each added seven more points before the end of the half.
The third quarter saw only one score, a 49-yard pass by VSU. Truman added its own TD in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard run by Bret Yoder, but VSU slammed the door with a 16-yard run with 2:39 left.
