Truman broke a two game losing streak and earned the first victory of the season by rolling over Missouri-Rolla to open 1996 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

The Bulldogs tallied the first three scores of the game on a 22-yard field goal by Kyle Fischer and two 16-yard touchdown runs by Jarrett Anderson to take a 17-0 lead. UMR added seven points before the half to make the score 17-7 at intermission.

In the second half, the Miners scored first on a 32-yard touchdown pass, but the Bulldogs answered with a 3-yard run by Anderson for his third touchdown. The game was nailed shut for the Miners by a 14-yard touchdown run by Deric Johnson for Truman's 13th straight victory over the Miners.
