Truman dropped its first game in 11 years to Northwest and in doing so lost the "Old Hickory Stick", the oldest NCAA Division II trophy, to the Bearcats.

The 'Dogs and 'Cats each opened with scores before Truman's Kyle Fischer booted a 22-yard field goal to end the first quarter. Northwest then struck with two touchdowns before the Bulldogs could respond with a 5-yard run by Jarrett Anderson. The Bearcats added one more touchdown to leave the game 16-28 at intermission.

In the second half, the Bearcats scored three touchdowns and a field goal to lead, 16-52, before the Bulldogs scored the last points of the game on a 30-yard pass from Nate Minnis to Anderson.

Northwest would advance to the final eight of the DII playoffs and share the MIAA title with Pittsburg.
